Summer Camp Director

Do you love working with and engaging children in a collaborative setting? Do you want nights and weekends off and love the charm of a seaside community? If you’re into gardening, field games, waterslides, STEM projects, and arts and crafts, you’ll fit right in with the VMS Summer Camp team!

On the beautiful island of Martha’s Vineyard, Vineyard Montessori School is the largest provider of early childcare. Our non-profit, independent school was founded in 1975 and will host 70 local and visiting children ages 2.9 through 7 years old on our downtown Vineyard Haven campus, within walking distance of the ferry to Cape Cod. Our 8-week summer program is creative and dynamic with age-appropriate activities, giving every camper a memorable summer experience.

Camp Director duties include: planning and implementing an engaging curriculum for all children; participating, supervising and interacting with campers during daily activities; having extensive professional communication with parents; working in a team setting; leading weekly team meetings; and acting as a professional role model by following all policies and procedures. The Director oversees all camp counselors and reports directly to the Head of School.

The Summer Camp Director must be at least 21 years old with either: successful completion of a course in camping administration such as those offered by national professional camping associations, national agencies, or their equivalent; or at least two seasons of previous experience working as part of the administrative staff of a recreational camp for children. A commitment to working from June 17 through August 16 is a must. This position offers a very competitive salary of $27-$36/hour depending on experience. We want to hear from you! (VMS is an EOE)
