Substitute Teacher

VMS is seeking Substitute Teachers for our Toddler Classroom (ages 15 months – 2.9 years), Primary Classroom (ages 3 years – 6 years), Elementary Classroom (6 years – 12 years).

The Substitute Teacher plays a vital role in fostering a nurturing, respectful, and developmentally appropriate Montessori learning environment. This role requires a high degree of flexibility and the ability to adapt to the routines and needs of different classrooms. The Substitute Teacher helps maintain a calm, organized, and purposeful atmosphere that supports safety, independence, and alignment with Montessori values. They attend to each child’s basic needs and individual growth, including supporting respectful self-care routines such as hygiene, toileting, and other daily practices that honor each child’s readiness and comfort, all while working in partnership with the Lead Teacher’s established classroom practices.

Collaborating with Lead Teachers and classroom staff, the Substitute Teacher guides children through daily routines, reinforces classroom expectations, and supports individual and small-group learning experiences that promote independence, curiosity, and a love of learning. Their adaptability and proactive approach help ensure each classroom continues to function smoothly, providing consistent, high-quality care and education for every child.

Job Requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to make sound decisions and take responsibility for the safety and well-being of students
• ​​Open to feedback and dedicated to continuous learning and professional growth
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
• Genuine interest in a child’s wellbeing, development and Montessori education

$30.00 per hour
